"Dead Men Tell No Tales."
Some serial killers seem to have such ideal lives that it's almost impossible to understand the motivation for their crimes. Then there are killers who had such rough childhoods that it's easy to see why they turned out the way they did. Killers like Tommy Lynn Sells.
Tommy was born to Nina and William Sells on June 28, 1964, in Oakland, California, along with a twin sister, Tammy Jean. The twins had two older siblings, Timothy Lee and Terry Joe, and they were soon joined by another set of twins, both boys, and later by a brother – Jerry Kevin, Jimmy Keith, and Randy Gene respectively.
Although William was listed as the father on the birth certificates, Tommy would later swear that the biological father of all the children was a man named Joe Lovins. William had regular employment, with benefits, but when he fell into serious financial trouble, he turned to Joe Lovins to help. Tommy claimed that Lovins took advantage of William's debt to force him to claim the kids as his. Nina never denied the claim.
Joe Lovins is the man who gave Tommy Sells the words that were his motto during his decades of killing: "Dead men tell no tales." |
